Abrasive waterjet is controlled erosion cutting process using high pressure water mixed
with an abrasive (crushed garnet) to cut almost any type of material.
High pressured water (approximately 50,000 PSI) passes through a jeweled orifice
The flow enters into a mixing chamber where the crushed garnet is introduced to the high
pressure water. The stream of water causes a vacuum which draws the garnet into a cutting nozzel.
The geometry of the orifice and cutting nozzle results in a jet stream exiting the cutting head
at 2-3 times the speed of sound. The material being cut is then eroded by this supersonic stream.
